Who is an Alumnus of Obafemi Awolowo University?
Great Ife Alumnus/Alumna is anyone that enrolled in and graduated from the Obafemi
Awolowo University (formerly the University of Ife).
Am I an Alumnus, if I obtained only a Diploma and or just did my Postgraduate Program (Maste’s and or Doctorate) in OAU, formerly the University of Ife, Ile-Ife?
Yes, you are an Alumnus, once you attended the University and obtained either your Diploma, Bachelor’s Degree, or Postgraduate Degree(s)
What is the difference between an Alumnus and an Alumna?
An Alumnus is the term used to describe a Male Alumnus while the term Alumna is mostly used in respect of Female Alumnus. The term Alumnae is used for a group of both Male and Female Alumni.
How soon can I join the Alumni Association?
You can join immediately after Graduation and or during the NYSC Scheme. Some Alumni Association Chair Persons often go to the various Orientation Camps to encourage Fresh graduates of our University to join the GREAT IFE Alumni Association.
Are there benefits for joining the Association?
The benefits are limitless – it avails you the opportunity to network effectively and efficiently for career growth and due exposure. Mentoring and Counseling opportunities also abound.
What are my financial obligations monthly/annually for becoming/being a Member?
Monthly and or Annual Dues vary from one Branch to the other.
How many Branches/Chapters of the Alumni Association are in Nigeria?
The GREAT IFE Alumni Association has well over 30 Branches across the Nation.
Are there Branches of the Association within Africa?
Yes, there are. There’s the GREAT IFE Alumni Association in The Gambia, GREAT IFE Alumni Association in Liberia and also The GREAT IFE Alumni Association in Ghana.
Are there Diaspora Branches or Chapters of the Association in UK, Europe, Canada and USA?
Yes, there are. There’s the GREAT IFE Alumni Association in United Kingdom, GREAT IFE Alumni Association in Canada and also several Chapters of the noble Association in Five States in the USA.
Do the various Chapters interface with each other via Alumni Reunions, if so how often?
Yes, Delegates from Nigeria and the Diaspora (The Gambia, Liberia, Ghana America, Europe and Brazil) meet for GREAT IFE Alumni International Reunion every two years.
If my location changes, can I continue at the next nearest Alumni Chapter or Branch close to me?
Yes, you can; as the Association’s ideals and focus are same across borders.
Can I simultaneously be an active Member of my Class-Set Alumni and also be a Member of the National Alumni Association?
Yes, you can function within the two simultaneously; all with a view to broaden affinity and garner the much-needed support for our University.
Can I run for an Elective Post as a Member in the Alumni Association?
Yes, you can; and in line with the Association’s Constitution you must have successfully served at your Branch level before venturing to serve at the National Executive level.
Can I apply, process and pay appropriate Fee for the issuance of my Transcript from anywhere in the World?
Yes, you can; by applying online via the University’s Web Site: www.oauife.edu.ng
You, however need to have your Matriculation Number handy.
Can I institute a Prize and or Prizes for Subjects and at Faculty levels? If so, what are the procedures?
Yes, you can do so by applying for same through the Advancement Office. You will need to specify details of the intended Prize and a brief Biography of the would-be Donor and / or Group. The Gifts and Donations Form is available on the University’s web site.
Can I initiate Scholarship(s) for indigent and / or bright Student(s) in my Department? If so, what are the procedures?
Yes, you can by following the same procedure as in (16) above.
Can I ‘adopt’ and or make-over/renovate any of my Former Rooms in the Hostel?
Yes, you can. A formal Letter of Intent is required and you will be advised as appropriate; after due consultations with both the Hall Management and the Division of Students Affairs.
Can my Class-Set support our Department by undertaking the renovation of the Lecture Theatres, Studios, Laboratories, Libraries and or Seminar Rooms?
Yes, the University’s Management will be too glad to welcome all such initiatives and more. Once the formal Letter is received, the needful will be done promptly to ensure speedy execution of all such interventions at the relevant Departments and Faculties.
Can my Branch opt to adopt an entire Hall of Residence with a view to renovating same?
Yes, please. A Diaspora Chapter and another Branch in Nigeria undertook the successful renovation of Angola Hall of residence recently. GOD bless the Donors, more of such interventions will be appreciated in other Halls of residence on Campus.
What are the criteria for attending Alumni Reunions?
Being a bonafide Member of the University’s Alumni Association, and a registered Member of one of the Branches/Chapters. All expenses for such trips are borne fully by the Alumni involved.
Can my Partner (Spouse and / or Friend that are either Alumni or Non- Alumni) and / or Family Members attend the Alumni Reunion with me. If so, are we to pay a Flat rate?
Yes, Partners, Friends and Children are welcome at the Reunions, but the applicable rates differ slightly.
